Field Guide · P3 of 3

# There's the capture system that stores. And the container that holds your becoming.

> A Field Guide for the operator with great ideas that evaporate and projects that scatter. Seven chapters, seven Moves you install in your week. PDF plus AI-Ready Markdown with Companion Guide. $7.

You have ideas. They evaporate. You had a great thought last Tuesday and now you can't find it. Or you capture everything and the capture is a digital pile that holds nothing because nothing's structured.

You feel scattered. A lot of cool ideas. A whole bunch of projects that go nowhere with each.

The anxious-ungrounded interior. The week that happens to you instead of being architected by you. Your body keeping score and you haven't checked in. Restoration is what's left after work, family, obligation, not architected up front.

The aggregate cost: trust in yourself erodes because you can't find your own thinking. The container you have is optimized for storage. The container you need holds your becoming.

Most capture systems are productivity-knowledge-management. PARA. Tags. Folders. The Lane version is different. The capture is the input layer. Presence is the practice. The byproduct is the point: you stay present with life because the structure remembers.

The body is the first container. The AI capture is the second. The weekly sift is the rhythm. The pace layers are the architecture. The Second Brain (the Lane version) lives inside the sovereignty container, not inside a productivity frame.

The Field Guide installs a different practice. The five-step sovereign capture flow. Body as the first container. The Second Brain reframed. Pace layers of self with restoration as foundational architecture. The weekly sift. Seven Moves that turn capture into the foundation underneath a quieter mind by design.

The Practitioner

I'm Lane Belone, a writer on the Infinite Game, a former Green Beret and co-author of _Unleash Your Humble Alpha_. I've been holding a capture practice for a few years now. Long enough to watch what most capture systems quietly cost. Long enough to land on the version that holds the work while letting me stay present with the people in front of me.

The productivity-knowledge-management frame optimizes for retrieval. The Lane version optimizes for presence. The capture is what lets me return to life. The structure remembers so I don't have to.

The body is the first container. Symphony of energies. Improvised composition. Ever-flowing. We have a say in which instruments are loud. The body knows what the AI hasn't been shown. The weekly sift is fifteen minutes with the thinking partner where the patterns surface through rhythm rather than through analysis.

This Field Guide is that practice. Seven Moves I've installed in my own week. Each one earned through writing my way through the scattered-with-cool-ideas-going-nowhere texture and finding the container that holds on the other side.

A quieter mind by design.

The Field Guide

## Seven chapters. Seven Moves. Twenty to forty minutes to read. Weeks to install. Held by structure for the long run.

Each chapter names a piece of the container. Each one ships **The Move**, an install you can drop into your week before the chapter's even fully landed. The Move is the point. The reading is the on-ramp.

Read in order on the first pass. Install the Moves as you go. The Field Guide is built for steady practice plus a quarterly container review.

Chapter 1\. The Evaporating-Ideas-And-Scattered-Projects Texture.

The Tuesday-idea-gone-by-Thursday. The digital pile of unsorted captures. The lots-of-cool-ideas-going-nowhere feeling. The week that happens to you. _The Move:_ a three-minute morning capture check. Count this week's items. Mark how many you can still locate the context for. The first honest data on your current container.

Chapter 2\. The Body as the First Container.

Body as embodied knowledge of all your experiences. The symphony of energies. Improvised composition. We have a say in which instruments are heard. _The Move:_ a daily body check-in. Three breaths. Three questions. _What's playing in my symphony today? Which instruments are loud? Which want to be heard?_ Two sentences captured before any AI session.

Chapter 3\. Sovereign Capture. Presence as the Practice.

The capture container that holds without forcing. The byproduct is presence. Ideas park. You return to life. _The Move:_ the five-step capture flow installed in your tool of choice. Capture, tag, surface, release, trust. The exact tag list, the daily-glance protocol and the recurring calendar block all set before closing the chapter.

Chapter 4\. The Second Brain Reframed.

The Lane version. PARA optimizes for retrieval. The reframe: your Second Brain is the surface where the body's knowing gets externalized and held. For trust. For becoming. For watching the patterns of your own mind across time. _The Move:_ the sovereign Second Brain audit. Mark three captures from the last month that surprised you when you re-encountered them. Those three are where the practice is alive.

Chapter 5\. Pace Layers of Self.

Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly. Restoration as foundational architecture, not residual. Fill your own cup. Pour from the excess. Hedonic calendaring in the Flow Research Collective lineage. _The Move:_ the pace layers worksheet. Five rows. What lives at each cadence. What's currently missing at the slower ones. The first honest map.

Chapter 6\. The Weekly Sift. Reflection That Emerges Through Rhythm.

Fifteen minutes with your thinking partner. The week's captures get surfaced. Patterns get named. Releases happen. Next week's architecture gets set. Reflection emerges through the sift. _The Move:_ the weekly sift protocol. Fifteen minutes on the calendar. Copy-paste prompt for your AI. Recurring block set before the chapter closes.

Chapter 7\. A Quieter Mind by Design. The Quarterly Container Review.

The arrival. The container holds your becoming. The structure remembers so you don't have to. _The Move:_ the quarterly container review block on your calendar. Body check-in audit. Capture flow audit. Pace layers audit. Weekly sift audit. One sitting per quarter. The structure holds you for the next ninety days.

The felt difference after the Moves are installed.

Spaciousness. The forgot-something anxiety dissolves because the structure remembers. The body is trusted as the first knower. The week feels like yours instead of someone else's. Consolidation. Simplicity. Self-organizing dynamic. What you were missing wasn't discipline. It was a container that holds your becoming, not just your tasks.

## One Move, whole

From Chapter 2, The Body Is the First Container. A thirty-second read before you start a work session. Here it is as it ships.

### The Move

**What you're installing:** The Body Capacity Check-In. A thirty-second read before any significant capture or work session.

**The reason:** The body is the primary container of capacity. Sessions run from a depleted or unread body produce captures and output shaped by that depletion without your awareness. A thirty-second check-in names what the symphony is actually playing before you ask it to support a session. The honest read shapes how you enter the session, what you ask of it and when you close it.

**Install this week:**

Before any significant work session this week, pause for thirty seconds. Close your eyes if that helps. Take two slow breaths. Ask: _What's the body reporting right now? What's available?_

You're not looking for words at first. You're looking for a texture. Open or closed. Resourced or running low. Ready or pressed. Let the answer arrive before you decide how to proceed.

Write a one-line note at the start of each session. Something like: _Tuesday morning. Body: ready. Good session to go deep._ Or: _Thursday afternoon. Body: thin. Limit this to 45 minutes and sift, don't generate._

At the end of the week, read the notes. The body was tracking your capacity accurately. The sessions where you checked in likely felt different from the ones where you ran past it.

To use your AI as a partner here: open your session, type or dictate your one-line body read at the top. Ask the AI to hold that context. If the session runs long, the AI can check in: "You noted thin capacity at the start. You've been at this 50 minutes. Worth a break?"

Solo alternate: the one-line note in any notebook or doc. The act of writing it is enough to bring the capacity read into conscious awareness before the session starts.

**The expansion:** Within a few weeks, the check-in becomes a reflex rather than an install. You stop running past your actual capacity because you've been naming it. The sessions you enter with honest reads produce better captures, better decisions and better rest at their close. The body was the container all along. You're just learning to consult it first.

## Common Questions

**I already capture ideas. What's different about this Field Guide?**

The Field Guide names what most capture systems quietly cost. Productivity-knowledge-management optimizes for retrieval. The Lane version optimizes for presence. Seven chapters, seven Moves. The five-step sovereign capture flow. Body as the first container. The Second Brain reframed underneath sovereignty. Pace layers of self with restoration as foundational architecture. The weekly sift that surfaces patterns through rhythm. A quieter mind by design because the structure remembers.

**How long does it take to work through?**

Twenty to forty minutes for the first read. The Moves install over weeks. The five-step capture flow goes in your tool of choice. The body check-in is three breaths daily. The weekly sift is fifteen minutes with your thinking partner. Quarterly container review baked in for the next ninety days.

**What's the AI Companion Guide section in the markdown file?**

The markdown ships with a Companion Guide section at the top. Voice-brief block, Moves index, the five-step capture flow with the daily-glance protocol, the weekly sift prompt your AI walks you through, the quarterly container review block. Drop the file into Claude or ChatGPT. The AI facilitates the sift, not the capture. The capture stays in your hands so presence stays the practice.

**Do I need to be technical?**

No. The Field Guide is about the practice, not the platform. Apple Notes, Obsidian, plain text, voice memos, whatever you already use. The five-step flow installs into your tool of choice. The capture moves stay the same regardless of the surface.

**Who wrote this?**

Lane Belone, a writer on the Infinite Game, former Green Beret and co-author of Unleash Your Humble Alpha. Built the Field Guide from inside the scattered-with-cool-ideas-going-nowhere texture. The capture container that holds without forcing is what came out the other side.
